چکیده

2014 Metallic particles crystallized on MgO cubes have been observed in profile view in HRTEM. The images are processed in order to improve the visibility of the particles morphology and the eventual defects at the interface metal/MgO. Three different filters have been used, all of them working in the Fourier space. A band pass filter keeping all the spatial frequencies close to the (200) reflections improves the contast of the particles against the noise. Bragg filters around the (200) reflections show up the lattice defects. A new filtering by subtraction of the background, improves both the contrast of the particles and the details at the interface. Chemisorption and reactions of small molecules on small gold particles.

The activity of supported gold particles for a number of oxidations and hydrogenations starts to increase dramatically as the size falls below ~3 nm. This is accompanied by an increased propensity to chemisorption, especially of oxygen and hydrogen. The explanation for these phenomena has to be sought in kinetic analysis that connects catalytic activity with the strength and extent of chemisorp...

Atomic Insights into the Melting Behavior of Metallic Nano-catalysts

In the present study, molecular dynamics simulations have been utilized to provide fundamental understanding of melting behavior of pure Pd and Pt nanoparticles with the size of 10 nm in diameter, both free and graphene-supported during continuous heating. The embedded atom method is employed to model the metal-metal interactions, whereas a Lennard-Jones potential is applied to describe the met...

Collapse in crystalline structure and decline in catalytic activity of Pt nanoparticles on reducing particle size to 1 nm.

Combined experimental and computational studies show that, upon reducing the diameter of Pt nanoparticles down to 1 nm, a collapse in the crystalline structure occurs spontaneously and the thus-induced quantum size effect causes a decline in the catalytic activity toward H2 electrooxidation. Platinum has been playing a vital role in heterogeneous catalysis, especially for low-temperature fuel c...

Preferential CO oxidation in hydrogen (PROX) on ceria supported catalysts PART I. Oxidation state and surface species on Pt/CeO2 under reaction conditions

The CO content of hydrogen feed to proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) must be kept under 1-100 ppm for their proper operation. This can be achieved by using catalysts able to selectively oxidize CO in the presence of excess hydrogen (PROX). The present study reports on the mechanism of PROX reaction on Pt/CeO2 catalyst, by using catalytic tests, in-situ DRIFTS, high-pressure XPS, HRTEM...

Deposition of Various Shapes Particles on a Rough Surface in Turbulent Flow

An experiment set-up is used to study wall deposition rate of particles on a rough surface in a turbulent channel flow. Deposition velocities for three classes of particles, namely, spherical glass particles, irregular shape polymer particles, and fibrous silicon particles are studied. The particle concentration at the test section was measured with the aid of an isokinetic probe in conjunction...
